Male Body Types

When you take a gander at your stripped body in the mirror, what do you see? Unless you are some sort of exception and a genetic muscle mutant, your body will fall into one of the three typical body shapes.

Being genuinely fit is perhaps the most ideal approach to build your general prosperity. In any case, to take advantage of our wellness schedules, we have to adjust them to our male body types.

Men come in various shapes and sizes – some are strong, some are substantial, some are short and stocky, others are tall and lean.

In light of their extraordinary physical attributes, men’s bodies can be separated into three types.

In this article, we will talk about the three principle male body types and their main characteristics. We will likewise offer tips to help you understand your body type.

3 Body Types Of Men

Male body types classification was invented in the 1940s when American psychologist William Sheldon created the classification of 3 main groups: mesomorph, endomorph, and ectomorph. He used physical features as the main classification characteristic. Even more than 70 years later, his classification is still widely used and relevant when it comes to fitness, diet, and training.

Men who belong to this body type can also be called somatotonic, they usually have very muscular bodies, with strong legs and arms, having a very little amount of fat in their bodies. They tend to have broad shoulders and a big head but a pretty narrow waist.

Assessing them physiologically, Sheldon suggested that they are somewhat behaving similarly to endomorphs – they tend to be courageous, adventurous and assertive. Mesomorphs are the first ones to participate in any competition and always tend to be dominant in life and relationships.

Typical traits of mesomorphs:

  • Athletic
  • Hardbody with well-defined muscles
  • Rectangular shaped body
  • Strong

Also known as Viscerotonic, this type of male body is characterized by being plump and buxom, having narrow shoulders with large arms and tiny wrists. They typically have pear shape of the body due to having wide hips as well as a significant fat layer on their thighs.

In terms of their behavior, they are soft, fun-loving, even-tempered, and sociable.

Typical traits of endomorphs:

  • Soft and round body
  • Gains muscle and fat very easily
  • Usually short
  • Round physique
  • Finds it hard to lose fat
  • Slow metabolism

William Sheldon classified this body type as lean with thin legs and arms, having narrow shoulders and chest, benefiting from almost no body fat. Ectomorphs are also called cerebrotonic. They tend to have narrow faces and have a very delicate appearance. It is usually difficult for them to be gaining weight, it doesn’t matter how much they eat they will remain skinny.

In terms of their behavior, they are opposites of endomorphs and tend to be very shy, quiet, and fragile. They also usually keep to themselves and are socially anxious.

Typical traits

  • Small “delicate” frame and bone structure
  • Classic “hard gainer”
  • Flat chest
  • Small shoulders
  • Lean muscle mass
  • Finds it hard to gain weight due to fast metabolism.

Falling between categories

However, in 2020 male body types are not limited by those 3 categories only. There are also people who can be called “stocky” – they are pretty similar to endomorph body type but are shorter than average and also have broad shoulders and hips. It is easy for them to grow muscles but problematic to lose an excessive fat layer. Another “outsider” is medium build men – they are similar to mesomorphs however have more average characteristics – neither short nor tall, neither skinny nor overweight.

The body shape is given to you by nature and no matter what you do you will not be able to change it. Yes, you can try to achieve the best result for that category, but it is unlikely (more impossible) for you to switch to another male body type.

It doesn’t matter though that you can not reach your full potential. By choosing correct regime and diet plan you will be able to improve your body and get good results. However, you need to be careful and take into consideration your correct body type and also keep in mind that the endomorph food plan will be different from mesomorph diet plan as well as will be different from the ectomorph diet. You need to set realistic goals and stick to those lifestyle habits, eating habits and exercise protocols that will work best for your body type.
